Cambodia Gambling Dens

[ English ]

There is a fascinating story to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just across the dividing line from next door Thailand, where gambling hall betting is not allowed. Eight gambling dens are established in a generally tiny space in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime destination, a 3 to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income acquired from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million, and there are a few restrictions requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; however, financing sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are supposedly needed to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is accurate of many border crossings.

The 1st Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored barge casino, contains one hundred and fifty slot machines and sixty gaming tables. The Naga gambling den never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long followed. A total of 150 slot machine games and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 one armed bandits and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and sixty six of the familiar tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around resort and hotel compound that highlights a number of luxuries aside from the gambling den, which offers ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slot machines and 88 tables.
