There is an appealing background to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just across the dividing line from nearby Thailand, in which casino betting is banned. Eight casinos are based in a relatively small location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect location, a 3 to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai laborers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The amazing income accrued from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few limitations constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; although, financial sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and even though visas are allegedly required to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is correct of many borders.

The first Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary ship casino, highlights 150 one armed bandits and sixty table games. The Naga casino is open 24 hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are 150 one armed bandits and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slots and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 punto banco (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and sixty six of the familiar gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight casinos in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around vacation and hotel building that highlights a number of amenities on top of the gambling den, which contains ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slots and 88 gaming tables.
